Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina‘s starrer ‘Jigra’, directed by Vasan Bala, is gearing up for a theatrical release on October 11. The recently released trailer featured Alia as a bold sister who fights for her younger brother. In a recent interview, director Vasan Bala revealed that he initially had no plans to feature Alia in the film. He further added that he was disappointed when Karan Johar sent Vedang’s rough draft to Alia.
In a chat with Tried & Refused Productions, Alia Bhatt, Vasan, and Vedang discussed the film’s plot, curation, and more. The ‘Student of the Year’ actress revealed how director Vasan Bala and producer Karan Johar began collaborating on the upcoming film. After working together on ‘Monica, O My Darling’, Vasan and Karan were looking for their next project. Vasan had been brainstorming ideas and sent Karan a rough outline via email. To Vasan’s surprise, just a few hours later, Karan called to inform him that he had already forwarded the email to Alia Bhatt, even though Vasan wasn’t fully satisfied with it. Vasan added, “I had written a very kachha pakka email, stream-of-consciousness thoughts… sent it to Karan, and 6-7 hours later, he called, saying that he had already sent it to Alia, and I was really not happy with it.”
Vasan was initially unhappy because he wanted to fix spelling, grammar, and improve the hero’s introduction. When he asked Karan why he sent the email so quickly, Karan replied that ‘this is how it works’ and scheduled a meeting. After reading the first half of the script, Alia was immediately intrigued and eager to find out what happens next. She pursued Vasan for the complete script over the course of a month.
