The actress-turned-politician revealed the emotional impact of these online attacks, shedding light on the severe harassment they faced as a result of their interfaith marriage.
In an interview with Mojo Story, Urmila recounted how Mohsin has been subjected to derogatory labels, including being called a “terrorist” and a “Pakistani.” She emphasized that there is a limit to what can be tolerated, stating, “I mean, there is a limit to where it should go…They have even infiltrated my Wikipedia page and they have gone and put my mother’s name as Rukhsana Ahmed and my father’s name as Shivinder Singh, two human beings who must be living somewhere in India but I don’t know of. My father’s name is Shrikant Matondkar and my mother’s name is Sunita Matondkar.”
Urmila further added, “To top it all, my husband is not only a Muslim but a Kashmiri Muslim. We both follow our religions in an equally staunch way. That gave them a bigger platform to troll me and constantly target him and his family. It was very unfortunate,” she added.
About a month ago, news of Urmila Matondkar’s divorce from Mohsin Akhtar Mir surfaced, shocking fans. According to a source from a Mumbai court, the actress filed for divorce approximately four months ago. The source told ETimes, “Urmila has filed for divorce about four months back.” Another report from Hindustan Times indicated that the separation is not mutual. An anonymous source revealed, “After careful consideration, Urmila has decided to call it quits on her marriage with Mohsin. She has already filed for divorce in court. While the reason behind the separation is still not known, the divorce isn’t happening on mutual terms.”
