More firms have introduced foldable smartphones in the past year, and now there’s talk that Sony will join the fray with its own clamshell foldable.

A forum post in South Korea is the source of the latest rumor, albeit the information provided there is, to put it mildly, sketchy. According to the rumor mill, the Xperia Compact series will be updated to a high-end clamshell foldable in the near future.

Strangely, none of the previous vertically folding smartphones had a secondary screen, so it’s unclear why the speculated handset wouldn’t. Sony may be reviving the Xperia Compact series as a clamshell foldable, but until we know more about the device’s specifications, we can only speculate.
