Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan, and his wife, producer Emma Thomas, have been honoured by King Charles III with a Knighthood and Damehood, respectively.
“Arise, Sir Christopher Nolan and Dame Emma Thomas!” the royal family wrote in a post on their official social media handle.
Photos from the ceremony were shared on Instagram with the caption, “Congratulations to all who received honours during today’s Investiture ceremonies, including film director Christopher Nolan and film producer Emma Thomas. The couple were recognised for their extraordinary contribution to Film, with their partnership producing major blockbusters such as The Dark Knight trilogy and Oppenheimer.”

The couple, received their honours during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. The recognition celebrates their exceptional contributions to the film industry.
Nolan shared a personal moment from the event, revealing that the King had watched his latest critically acclaimed biopic, ‘Oppenheimer’. “He said he had seen Oppenheimer and enjoyed it,” Nolan remarked. “It was very nice that he knew our work and was aware of it, and, yes, he was hoping that I would take this as encouragement to do more of it.”

Together, Nolan and Thomas have produced some of the most influential films of the past two decades, including ‘The Dark Knight Trilogy’, ‘Inception’, and ‘Oppenheimer’. Their partnership has achieved several milestones, with Thomas becoming the first British producer to win the Oscar for Best Picture.
Nolan and Thomas met at University College London, where their shared passion for cinema began. The two reportedly married in 1997 and co-founded their production company, which has since been behind their blockbuster hits.

Reflecting on their collaboration, Nolan advised aspiring filmmakers to “find a good partner,” noting the crucial role Thomas has played in his career since they met.
On the work front, Nolan is currently busy working on this next film. The untitled movie features an ensemble cast, including Tom Holland, Matt DamonZendaya, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinsonand Lupita Ngongowho are in lead roles. The film is set to premiere on 17 July 2026.
