New Nokia phones will no longer feature Zeiss cameras

It is unlikely that we will see Zeiss branding on Nokia phones in the future. HMD Global and Zeiss optics, the maker of Nokia-branded phones that have worked together for more than five years, have now confirm that they have ended their partnership.

In fact, the relationship between the two brands end in 2021. After removing the NokiaMob brand from the Zeiss website, the company has now officially confirm the news.

Zeiss said in a statement: “After a long period of successful cooperation, the partnership between ZEISS and HMD Global has come to an end in 2021.

Both sides have agree to cooperate as a development partner with ZEISS for the imaging technologies of “Nokia” brand smartphones and not to renew their non-exclusive collaboration.

“HMD Global has yet to comment on the end of the partnership. After the partnership ends in 2021, the latest phone from HMD Global is the XR20.

There is no official reason for not continuing the Zeiss partnership. Therefore, it is not clear whether the split was a mutual decision between the two brands.

The image of the brand has not been clear since HMD Global took over. However, the company is still finding success with smartphone photography on handsets like the Nokia 9 PureView. It was one of the best camera phones of its time.

Nokia also partner with Zeiss when they started making their own phones. The Nokia N90, release in 2005, was the first phone the two companies collaborat on. followed by the  N95; Other handsets such as the 808 PureView and the Nokia Lumia series have been bundled together.

HMD Global has been hot in 2017, bringing Zeiss optics to handsets like the 8.3 5G and Nokia 9 PureView.

Zeiss hasn’t completely retreat from the mobile photography space yet, as the brand partner with Vivo in 2020. zeiss has been working with HMD Global and Vivo at the same time.

Zeiss join the Vivo X80 series that was launch in China in May. So we may see the optics company lend its expertise to other Android phone brands in the near future.
