Laapataaa LadiesIndia’s official entry for the Oscars 2025, has been renamed Lost Ladies for the international audience. As the team begins its Oscar campaignthey’ve received major support from director Alfonso Cuaron.
According to Variety, Alfonso will host a screening of Lost Ladies as part of its BAFTA campaign. The team plans to promote the film through in-person screenings, including sessions at BAFTA headquarters. Producer Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios shared that the satire has connected with audiences across cultures, receiving positive reactions from viewers.
Jyoti Deshpande expressed pride in India’s contributions to global cinema, highlighting the country’s vast film production, linguistic diversity, and cultural richness. She emphasized that India has matured as a cinematic powerhouse and truly deserves to win an Oscar.
“India has done a lot for the global film industry, in terms of the number of films it makes, the number of languages we have, how rich in culture we are… I think India has come of age and deserves to win an Oscar,” she added.
Alfonso Cuarón, one of the world’s most celebrated filmmakers, is known for masterpieces like Y Tu Mamá También, Gravity, and Roma. He has twice earned the Oscar for Best Director, solidifying his reputation as a cinematic genius.
Last month, Aamir Khan began the Oscar campaign for the acclaimed film Lost Ladies. He attended a dinner at Vikas Khanna’s restaurant, The Bungalow, in New York. As awards season approaches, Aamir is in NYC promoting the film, joined by his ex-wife and the film’s director, Kiran Rao.
