The former Manchester United midfielder has turn down interest from West Ham . And has move to Nottingham Forest, who have made a comeback to the Premier League club this year.

Lingard has been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism and later the punditry duo did not follow through on their suggestions to move to Forest ‘for the money’.

Review for  Jesse Lingard by Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville

‘If any footballer is picking Nottingham Forest right now . They’ve obviously been here for a while before what they’ve done with West Ham in the last two or three years. Also, the fact that he’s only signed for one year means free next year or Bosman .

“Forest have a good chance of going down, but if Jesse Lingard can get eight to 10 goals for them, they could be in a good position. But if West Ham want you now, I don’t believe he will never go to West Ham. It’s strange for Nottingham Forest.’

The England international, who left United at the end of his contract, excelled on loan at the Hammers last season but turned down West Ham for a move to Forest. He sign a contract with Forest on a basic salary of £80,000-a-week, with potential bonuses include in the deal.

Meanwhile, Neville said of Lingard’s Nottingham Forest deal,’It really feels like a transaction.’

“As football fans, if Jesse is linked to where he’s going later this year for four or five months, it won’t be a good ending,” he said.

Fans don’t like such transactions. They just enjoy playing the game. Nottingham Forest put it a different way. He signed a two-year contract with a clause that says he can leave for free if team is relegate.

‘Jesse is clever. In terms of honor, he will be beaten. He was able to sign a two-year contract where he could leave for free if he was relegate at the end of the season.

Lingard’s decision to turn down West Ham for Forest . Could mean he will receive a frosty reception from the away fans on their home debut on August 14.

Neville said: ‘No one needs to know about that clause in the contract, it’s just smart. cold Why expose yourself to the fact that you are ruthless and money hungry?

And he rejected West Ham. Six months later, if he starts talking about moving elsewhere, it probably won’t be the media and the publicity.

‘No one has ever questioned his work ethic,’ . He’s always on the edge. They pressured him to go a few years ago. People thought he was Ronaldo or something. But he is obviously not that type of player ‘ Neville said .

‘Just think about how you portray yourself and how you are perceived in football. Sometimes you can move on, meaning that you shape it in a way that will help you in your future life after football. This is one of them that he can look back on and think about. ‘I don’t want this to happen’ .

Forest, who have made a dramatic return to the Premier League since 1999, approached the lucrative £120,000-a-week signing to bolster their squad ahead of their first season.

The Hammers are also in the race to sign Lingard permanently following his successful loan spell in 2020-21. However, they were reluctant to raise their salary offer, which was less than that made by Forest.

As a result, Forest have won the transfer race to sign Lingard. The signing of the 29-year-old is one of 12 new signings by Steve Cooper as he prepares to return to the top flight.
