Bollywood actress Guddi Maruti recently shared her thoughts on the dating scene and romance in the Hindi film industry during the ’90s. She disclosed that it was common for lead actors to be involved in romantic affairs, especially noticeable during outdoor shoots. Guddi also mentioned Akshay Kumar’s playful side, noting that he was quite popular with the ladies and had two or three girlfriends. In contrast, she described Govinda as a dedicated workaholic who stayed entirely focused on his career, unaffected by such distractions.
In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Guddi shared, “All the heroes were chalu, but not Govinda. We would say, ‘Chi Chi, even if a girl walks in front of you in a bikini, you wouldn’t notice her. You would only notice her smile and nothing else.’” The actress recalled that he was always busy with work and would get shy if female stars tried to attract him.

She further added that actors at that time used to keep their relationships private. They were curious to know who was dating whom at the shooting location and often waited to find out who would sneak into the other’s room. “‘Acha, raat ko ye ho raha tha (This was happening at night).’ Actors would come and complain to me that the actress’ mother was accompanying her and hindering their romance,” she revealed. Guddi would tell them that mothers were there on every shooting set to protect their daughters from such advances.
Committee Maruti also mentioned that Akshay Kumar was quite flirtatious on set. The duo collaborated for ‘Khiladi’, and she recalled, “Kaafi girlfriends thi uski (He had many girlfriends). I know of two or three of his lovely girlfriends, but I can’t say how many more he dated.”
However, she clarified that he was very nice and comfortable to work with. Maruti added that while Akshay Kumar may not have juggled multiple girlfriends at once, he still had a reputation as a heartbreaker. She described how he would appear innocent, though rumors about his romantic escapades circulated widely.
