In a chat with Manju Ramanan on her YouTube channel, Deepak shared that ‘Pehla Nasha’ was his debut film as a producer. He recalled how he and director Ashutosh Gowariker, along with their friends, were in Goa filming ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa.’ During that time, Ashutosh was exploring opportunities to create a film, working with both Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan. Eventually, Ashutosh and Deepak connected, and after Ashutosh narrated a concept that Deepak liked, they decided to move forward with making the film together.
The film 'Pehla Nasha' featured Pooja Bhatt and Raveena Tandon in leading roles, with memorable cameos by Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Saif Ali Khan. Deepak further recalled the fun and camaraderie among the cast, with close friendships and light-hearted moments on set. Shah Rukh and Aamir were brought in by Ashutosh to create a unique, unforgettable experience. The cast would often arrive early to play games like dumb charades.
Ashutosh later collaborated with Aamir Khan on ‘Baazi’ and ‘Lagaan,’ and with Shah Rukh Khan on ‘Swades.’ ‘Pehla Nasha’ is a remake of Brian De Palma’s 1984 thriller ‘Body Double.’
