The Houston family is immersed in grief as one of their beloved members has passed away. Grammy-winning gospel singer Cissy Houston, who was also the mother of musical artist Whitney Houston has breathed her last at 91. Cissy moved away from the mortal world on Monday morning in her New Jersey home while under hospice care for Alzheimer’s disease. The news was confirmed by her daughter-in-law Pat Houston.
According to the Associated Press, Patt in a statement shared, “Our hearts are filled with pain and sadness.We lost the matriarch of our family.”
“Mother Cissy has been a strong and towering figure in our lives. A woman of deep faith and conviction, who cared greatly about family, ministry, and community. Her more than seven-decade career in music and entertainment will remain at the forefront of our hearts,” Pat added.
Cissy Houston was a two-time Grammy winner. She was a founding member of the R&B group and her contribution to the music world can’t be described in words. She had worked with renowned artists including Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Roy Hamilton, and Dionne Warwick.
As the news of her demise came out, fans started paying their final respects to the late artist. Taking to X, one of the netizens shared a clip of one of her performances in the ’80s alongside her daughter Whitney and wrote, “God Speed Cissy Houston. She was one of the best voices in soul and easily one of the greatest session musicians our world has ever seen. Here she is with 19-year-old Whitney on the Merv Griffin Show in 1983.”
Another X user wrote – “I’m so sad about Cissy Houston’s passing. Feels like the little bit of Whitney we had left, officially left us. Hope they’re together now.”
