Jaffery rums known for being a writer on some iconic movies like ‘Biwi No 1’, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’ among others, has also directed movies like ‘God Tussi Great Ho’ and ‘Life Partner’. His last film was ‘Chehre’ which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Emraan Hashmi and Rhea Chakraborty. In an interview recently, Rumi has revealed that Big B didn’t charge any fees for the film.
He recalled an incident on The Ashoke Pandit Show and said that producer Anand Pandit came to tell him that Bachchan’s fees are too high for him. Rumi said, “Anand said, ‘I have asked around in the market. What Amit ji has charged in his last film is a little high for me, if we can bring it down a little bit, it will be great but my relationship with him is such that whatever he says, I will have to say yes to him. So you please look into it’.”
The producer and director then decided to visit Big B’s house to talk to him about it. But as soon as they reached his house, they were left shocked. “Amit ji said, ‘I have called you guys to speak about just one thing, I will not charge anything for this film. I will do it for free.’ We were nearly in tears,” said Rumi.
After they reached Bachchan’s house, the actor declared that he had only called them to announce that he would not be charging any money for the film. “Amit ji said, ‘I have called you guys to speak about just one thing, I will not charge anything for this film. I will do it for free.’ We were nearly in tears,” he recalled.
In the same interview he also revealed that Big B not only did the film for free, he also paid for his own travel and accomodation. Rumy said, “Amit ji came to Poland in a chartered plane and later Anand bhai told me that Amit ji paid for his own plane and hotel. He didn’t allow production to pay for it,” he said and added, “He didn’t want to burden the film’s budget.”
