Bollywood superstar Aamir Khanwho made his debut over 35 years ago, recently shared that in the early days of his career, he struggled with an “inferiority complex” regarding his height. Standing at approximately 5’5, Aamir admitted he feared audience rejection due to his shorter stature compared to other leading men of his era. However, over time, he realized that such concerns were insignificant.
Aamir spoke candidly during a conversation with veteran actor Nana Patekar. Addressing the question, Nana asked, “Did you ever have any inferiority complex about your height?” Aamir responded, “Yes, I did. I used to feel that what if people don’t accept me because of my height. This was my fear. But later I realised that all of this does not matter at all. But at that time, some kind of insecurity creeps in.”
Nana, known for his unfiltered remarks, reassured Aamir, saying, “You have a nice face. Look at my face. With this face, I could work for 50 years.” Aamir laughed and reflected on how his perspective changed as he matured in the industry. “The things that stress us out in the beginning, we later realise that these things don’t matter at all. What is important is how honestly you are working and how your work can enchant people, and after that everything else is unimportant,” he added.
This isn’t the first time Aamir has spoken about his height insecurities. During the 2012 promotions for Talaash, he revealed, “Mere zehan mein tha, mujhe darr tha log bolenge bada tingu hai, so yeh darr tha par logon ko pasand aaya (This was on my mind. I was scared people will say he is so short but people liked me).”
Over the years, Aamir Khan has consistently proven that talent and dedication matter more than physical attributes. The actor, who has delivered numerous blockbuster performances, is set to return to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par.
