Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna‘s Pushpa 2: The Rule has been breaking box office records since its release. In just 15 days, the film has become the second-biggest hit in Indian cinema, grossing Rs 990 crore worldwide. Of this, the Hindi version alone contributed Rs 621 crore, making it the highest-grossing Hindi film ever, surpassing Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao‘s Stree 2. The Telugu version added Rs 295.6 crore to the film’s total earnings.
Industry insiders attribute the Hindi version’s exceptional success partly to the absence of a ticket pricing cap, unlike in Telugu-speaking states. This difference reflects in ticket sales as well. According to Sacnilk, Pushpa 2 sold 2.87 crore tickets in Hindi, compared to 1.42 crore in Telugu, clearly showcasing Hindi’s dominance by nearly double the ticket count.
The massive success of Pushpa 2 has fueled excitement for the franchise’s future. The film’s climax revealed plans for a third installment titled Pushpa 3: The Rampage. However, fans will have to wait another 2-3 years before the project officially goes into production.
Internationally, Pushpa 2 has also left its mark, collecting US $13.45 million in North America, surpassing Aamir Khan‘s Dangalwhich earned US $12.39 million, making it the sixth biggest Indian film in the circuit.Though the breakeven point of the film has been pegged at US $ 15 million, the trade is more than convinced that the film will cross that mark and turn profitable with Christmas and New Year holidays just around the corner. With its record-breaking run, Pushpa 2 has cemented its place as one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema history.
