Allu Arjun was arrested in connection with the tragic death of a woman at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad during a screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule earlier this month. He was taken from his home to the Chikkadpally police station for questioning on Friday morning.
According to the latest news, the actor has now been sent to police custody for 14 days.
Earlier, Visuals of the actor wearing a hoodie with the tagline “Flower nahi, fire hai mein” (a famous line from Pushpa) while being taken away by the police went viral on social media. The actor, with millions of fans nationwide, was seen hugging his wife Sneha Reddy before being taken to the Chikkadpally police station, where the case was registered.
Meanwhile, condemning the way the actor was treated during the arrest, BRS leader KT Rama Rao took to his X handle and wrote, ‘Arrest of National Award winning star Allu Arjun is the pinnacle of insecurity of the rulers! I totally sympathize with the victims of the stampede but who failed really? Treating @alluarjun Garu as a common criminal is uncalled for especially for something he isn’t directly responsible. There is always space for respect & dignified conduct. I strongly condemn the high handed behaviour of Govt. Going by the same perverse logic, Revanth Reddy should be arrested for causing the death of two innocent people who died in Hyderabad because of the fear psychosis caused by Hydra’.
The charges against Allu Arjun include Section 118(1) and Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
A large crowd gathered outside the theatre to see Pushpa 2: The Rule lead actor Allu Arjun, who was at the screening with music director Devi Sri Prasad. As fans rushed toward the venue, chaos broke out, causing the theatre’s main gate to collapse. In the panic that followed, a 35-year-old woman tragically died, and her 9-year-old son was seriously injured. Despite attempts by law enforcement to control the crowd, the stampede led to a fatal outcome.
