Vivek Oberoi turned to business to avoid doing 'crappy movies' just for money: 'Earlier you're insecure, feel I need to suck up to this person' - EXCLUSIVE

Vivek Oberoi who is seen lesser in movies lately, has turned entrepreneur and ventured into several types of businesses. The actor who has established himself in a big way now recently spoke to ETimes about balancing his movie career with business. The actor admitted that while his love and passion will always remain cinema, it’s a circle for him, as his business aids movies and movies further aide his business.
The actor told ETimes, “My life is a circle. Cinema is my first love but the minute you have to do cinema for money or empowering yourself in anyway, it starts to become transactional and you start making wrong choices You know sometimes that you’re doing a crappy movie but you’ve got to pay the bills so do it. When you can be smart enough to businesswise or investment wise, then I don’t have to pursue cinema for monetory gains. I just have to pursue movies for the love of it. That frees you up.”
He further added, “Cinema gives you a brand which along with hard work, you can create a dual leverage to make business work. But business gives you a push and income and from that, you reach a purpose. The purpose of life is beyond your personal hobbies, gain, money – that defines you as a human being. In my case, it’s philanthropy.”
While today, it’s easier for Vivek to not choose movies for finances, ask him if earlier it was a struggle for him and here’s what he says. “Challenge it is in terms of may be because you’re feeling insecure at that point in time that nobody else is giving me work so let me do this or else I will get mad sitting at home. May be sometimes you need money. May be I need to suck up to this powerful person so, he gives me a push for a better film, even if this is a crappy role. I love this amazing custom, called ‘sankalp’ which the pandit ji makes you do before any pooja. That makes you realise your goal and outcome. Somewhere even when you go wrong, in your heart you know it. I know about the times when I’ve compromised,” revealed Vivek.
The actor will be seen next in ‘Masti 4’.
