Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai on-screen and off-screen relationship will always be one of the most talked-about partnerships in B-town. The two teamed up for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ and gave film enthusiasts one of the most sizzling pair-ups on the big screen. While they saved the best for film, off-screen, they shared some rather intense moments.
Veteran actor Smita Jayakar, who played Aishwarya’s mother in the film, shared a lesser-known behind-the-scenes tidbit that gave fans a tease of Salman’s possessiveness towards Aishwarya. Speaking to Rajshri Unplugged, Smita recalled an incident during the song shoot of Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyaan, where the actor had no qualms about asking the director to back away from Ash.She claimed that Salman confronted Bhansali after he allegedly touched the actress while trying to demonstrate a sequence. “I remember Sanjay touched Aishwarya like this while explaining the scene, and Salman immediately intervened, saying, ‘Sanjay, Sir, why did you touch her? You are not supposed to do that’,” Smita recalled.
While the rumoured romance between Salman and Aishwarya reportedly worked to the film’s advantage, their fallout also impacted Bhansali’s projects. It was reported that the couple’s break-up led to Ash stepping away from future collaborations with Salman.
Meanwhile, Salman went on to feature in a cameo in Bhansali’s 2007 film ‘Saawariya’, but their next feature film ‘Inshallah’, which was slated to go on floors in 2019, was eventually shelved due to creative differences.
