While Telugu Cinema has transcended regional boundaries, Tamil Cinema is still struggling when it comes to international markets, especially if the films dont star names like Thalapathy Vijay or Rajinikanth or Kamal Hasaan. While the latest Tamil film Amaran crossed the US $ 1 million on 5th day of the release, upcoming film Kanguva which stars Suriya in the lead, is having a lukewarm run during its advance booking period.
Till Tuesday morning, the film had sold nearly 2700 tickets, collecting US $ 58685 ( Rs 49 lakh) for its premiere shows from 365 locations, and by Wednesday morning, the numbers have jumped to US $ 68,330 ( Rs 57.5 lakh) by selling 3073 tickets from 1035 shows in 390 locations. In comparison, Pushpa 2 which is almost a month away, has sold 5 times the tickets and collected 6 times the money till now.
However, the trade is keeping its hopes up, and is believing that a huge spike will come as the film nears its release. But that looks difficult with the current buzz, it now all depends on word of mouth publicity. The film also stars Bobby Deol and Disha Patani in the lead, it is a fantasy action film directed by Siva. It is slated to release on 14th November.
