T-NOW member Jiyeon and her estranged husband, baseball player Hwang Jae Gyunhave officially confirmed their plans to divorce after months of speculation.
Following the announcement on Saturday, Jiyeon took to Instagram and removed all posts featuring Hwang Jae Gyun. Interestingly, the star received an outpour of support from fans, with comments of encouragement and well-wishes flooded her account, with many urging her to take care of herself during this difficult time.
In addition to deleting the photos, Jiyeon removed a clip from her YouTube channel in which she and Hwang made baby shoes. SM Entertainment confirmed the news of the couple parting ways, stating that they has filed for divorce mediation. Jiyeon also released a brief statement through her lawyer, expressing her regret over the announcement. “Hello, this is Jiyeon. First of all, I want to express my apologies for greeting you with unfortunate news. [Hwang Jae Gyun and I] have mutually agreed to undergo mediation procedures for our divorce. I ask for your understanding for not addressing this matter sooner. I will strive to greet you with better news in the future. Thank you,” Jiyeon shared.
Hwang Jae Gyun echoed her sentiments, confirming that their decision to part ways, stemmed from their differences. He expressed that despite their separation, they would continue to support each other. His statement read, “Jiyeon and I have agreed to get a divorce after much consideration due to personality differences. We have already submitted a divorce mediation application to the Seoul Family Court and plan to conclude the process amicably. Although our relationship as a couple has ended, we will continue to support each other’s paths moving forward. I sincerely apologize to our fans for any disappointment this may have caused.”
The couple’s decision to part ways has saddened fans, but both Jiyeon and Hwang who have been cheering them on over the past years. The divorce announcement came weeks ahead of their wedding anniversary in December.
